The recent and imposing 12-story building in Salvador becomes the headquarters of the city’s new Public Archives of Salvador. In order to respect our past, it was necessary to care for these precious materials: more than four million of documents, an archive of rare items.
Using special conservation techniques, it was possible to organize, sanitize, restore and, then, digitize the entire collection, which consists of textual, audiovisual, iconographic and cartographic documents.
This is where students, researchers and citizens can search for information about the historical process of Brazil’s administrative formation, the facts and events of administrative life of Salvador’s City Hall, and the socio-cultural and political development process of the city.
As well as facilitating and democratizing the access to the first years of Salvador history, the Public Archives of Salvador encourages a taste for preservation and creates a culture of care and respect for future generations.
