The Casa das Histórias de Salvador exhibits its own language by inviting locals and tourists to delve into the city’s memory in a new way. It is a unique opportunity to learn about episodes that were previously not very visible, to stimulate inclusive thought, and to create your own narratives.

Casa das Histórias de Salvador combines the verbs “interpret” and “participate”. Through reproductions, digital content, and/or interactive languages, it offers content that aims to stimulate interaction with the visitor.

The building located at 2 Bélgica Street, in the Comércio neighborhood of Salvador, hosts a facility that has become a space for education, plurality, inclusion, new perspectives, knowledge, and reflection in which time and memory merge, sometimes through history, sometimes through the dynamics that build the city every day.

In our Casa [House], visitors will have a pioneering experience of interacting with events, places, and people. And more: they will be able to feel the stories that have continued to transform, over almost five centuries, the diverse peoples that gave rise to the first capital of Brazil. In addition, the Casa das Histórias de Salvador sheds light on Salvador by reinforcing it as one of the country’s main urban, scenic, architectural, and cultural centers, enhancing its heritage and further stimulating its tourism potential.

Heritage Interpretation Center

Nature, territory, and culture are made up of different layers of people and stories, not always revealed…

The Casa das Histórias de Salvador was conceived as a Heritage Interpretation Center. Through reproductions, digital content, and/or interactive and technological languages, the themes covered here contribute to fulfill the mission of stimulating reflection and participation so the visitors can make their own connections and interpretations of each subject presented. This unprecedented, sensitive, and poetic immersive experience aims to provoke the visitors’ senses and invite them to look at the city through new and particular lenses.

Accessibility

The Casa das Histórias de Salvador is a space where the city can be seen, reconvened, enchanted, and questioned. And, when we speak about encounters, this Heritage Interpretation Center embraces diversity more broadly. That is why a consistent accessibility project was drawn up, which allows a sensitive encounter between people, the exhibitions, and their different languages.

More than just allowing access for people with disabilities, our accessibility initiatives aim to promote a multi-sensory experience during the visitation of our space through various actions:

  1. Tactile adaptations of two-dimensional images: Pieces created with different reliefs and textures to enhance the tactile perception of visually impaired people.
  2. Descriptive audio guide: Describes the environment and pieces in an exhibition on display and guides the visually impaired through the space.
  3. Video for Libras (Brazilian Sign Language): Facilitating communication with the Brazilian public with hearing impairment.
  4. Tactile map: Helps the visually impaired to locate themselves in the space and observe the size of the exhibition and points of interest. 
  5. Tactile QR Code: Allows the visually impaired to locate it easily in order to access the audio description of the tactile map. 
  6. Texts in enlarged font and Braille: Facilitate access to expography information for people with low vision and visual impairments.
  7. Facilitated writing materials and pictograms: Benefit the comprehension of texts and subjects for people with cognitive impairment and those unfamiliar with our language so they can understand the texts and themes covered.
  8. Talk with the educational team about accessibility.
